Why Everyone Needs Mentors
This week, I’ve been diving into gratitude with a twist: practicing enthusiastic gratitude.
Gratitude alone is powerful, but when you pair it with genuine enthusiasm, it becomes transformative. It shifts your perspective and allows you to truly celebrate the people and experiences that make life extraordinary.
Today, I’m focusing on mentors—the incredible individuals who’ve shaped me into who I am today.
Why Mentors Are Essential
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: mentors are non-negotiable. They’re the guiding lights that illuminate our paths, helping us avoid pitfalls and showing us what’s possible.
But I believe we don’t just need one mentor—we need three distinct types of mentors to grow and thrive:
A Business Mentor
This person gives you clarity, provides actionable next steps, and holds you accountable to your goals. A great business mentor doesn’t just teach you the “what”—they show you the “how.”A Spiritual Mentor
Life isn’t just about doing; it’s about being. A spiritual mentor helps you navigate the deeper human experiences and gives meaning to your journey. They help you connect with your purpose and stay grounded.A Fitness or Physical Mentor
Without health, nothing else matters. A fitness mentor pushes you to achieve greater vitality, strength, and resilience. They show you what’s physically possible and encourage you to honor your body.
The Mentors Who Shaped My Life
When I reflect on my journey, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the mentors who’ve been there for me:
Chris Cooper (Business Mentor): Chris taught me how to navigate the world of business and gave me the opportunity to mentor others. His wisdom and structure helped me create a foundation for success.
Kara (Spiritual Mentor): Kara showed me how to face tough conversations head-on. Her guidance taught me that growth often comes from discomfort—and that avoiding hard truths only holds us back.
Brian Chotosh (Fitness Mentor): Brian ingrained in me the belief that no one is coming to save me. He showed me how to build resilience and push through physical and mental challenges, unlocking strength I didn’t know I had.
And then, there are the future mentors I haven’t yet met—people who will guide me through the next chapters of life, bringing new insights and perspectives I can’t yet imagine.
How to Find and Celebrate Your Mentors
Whether you’re just starting out or years into your journey, mentors can be game-changers. But finding the right ones takes intention.
Here’s how to start:
Identify Your Needs: Are you struggling with business strategy, spiritual fulfillment, or physical health? Knowing what you need helps you find the right person.
Be Open: Mentors can show up in unexpected ways—through friends, colleagues, or even online communities.
Ask for Help: Don’t be afraid to approach someone you admire. Most people are honored to share their knowledge.
Invest in Relationships: Great mentorship is a two-way street. Show appreciation and give back in whatever way you can.
Once you have mentors in your life, take a moment to celebrate them. Let them know how much they’ve impacted you. Gratitude strengthens the bond and encourages them to continue investing in you.
