10 Lessons in 10 Years

Here are some real-talk lessons from my last 10 years running a gym. Trust me, it's been a wild ride, and I think you might find some of this stuff handy.

  1. It's Way More Than You Think: Remember how I thought my gym would just be about coaching, programming, and memberships? Yeah, not even close. There's staff, systems, understanding your clients, and a whole lot more.

  2. Seed Clients are Gold: These are the folks who make you smile and actually care about your business. They're the ones worth listening to.

  3. Weed Clients? Not So Much: You know those who just complain? They might seem like they care the most, but don't let them get to you. They're not your focus.

  4. Your Team is Your Backbone: Seriously, your staff is everything. Treat them right, give them their space to shine, and watch your business grow.

  5. Speak Their Language: Find out how your team likes to be appreciated. A 'thank you' that hits home can mean the world.

  6. Think About Owning Your Space: If you're renting, start saving bit by bit to buy your place. It's a big move, but it's worth it.

  7. Forget the Haters: What others say about you? Doesn't matter. Just keep doing your thing.

  8. Tough Talks Make a Tough Business: Hard conversations can be game-changers. They'll make you and your business stronger.

  9. Ride the Highs and Lows: Some days are great, others not so much. But celebrate those good days like there's no tomorrow!

  10. Keep On Keeping On: Every day is different. Enjoy the good, learn from the tough, and just keep going.
