Yesterday was the Goal

Yesterday was the Goal

Our 15 and 17-year-olds became kids again, and we spent quality time with them. Real, uninterrupted time, free of teenage attitude or ego. We raced hermit crabs on the beach, they climbed rocks, and they found ways to get fresh coconuts out of trees. We sat at a local soda, drank a Coke, and tried all kinds of new snacks. When it started to rain, we played cards.

At the end of the day, we reflected on how we would never do this at home and asked ourselves, why?

The answer was simple: We don’t plan the time to be away from the noise of work, other people, and technology.

Have you noticed that some of your best times with others are the simplest?

  • A coffee and a conversation.

  • Time in nature, being present to the sounds.

  • A walk after dinner.

Yesterday was the goal, and today we will repeat it. Before we go home, we will spend time talking about how we can create these same experiences at home.

As small business owners, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget to plan for these moments. But remember, we get one life, and it's up to us to make the most of it. Don’t let the noise of work and technology keep you from living fully. Take the vacation, spend time with your loved ones, and live life out loud.

Reflecting on our time together, I realized that these simple moments are what life is all about. They are the ones we remember and cherish the most. So, let’s make a conscious effort to create more of them, both away and at home.

You get one life, 18 years with your kids, and one chance to live today.

Go live it out loud!
